Sozai Saishuka: Chapter 2: Magic was Plain (part 2)

T/N: This chapter part is brought to you by your neighborhood firefly, Hotaru-chan!

Wow! It’s been soooo long!

I would like to apologize for the long hiatus. I will now strive to release every 2-3 weeks to the best of my ability. *BOW*

Enjoy~!

Takeru did not realize this but, the blessing bestowed by the 『Young Man』 was an overkill that had been overdone to the point of going beyond common sense.

From the moment he held the language ability 『World Language』, he fell under what is commonly called a deviant; of course, Takeru knew nothing of this.

Not a GIFT, but a blessing.

It is something unbelievable.

No matter how much of a linguist one is, there was no way he could understand all of the languages from every kingdom, every region, and every race. Even this world’s most excellent linguists would only be able to understand around six national languages at most. Even for the ones who are born with the Potential Gift called Language Super Ability, there is no way they can understand all of the languages.

「Physical Ability」Improvement makes him hold strength several hundred times that of a normal human; able to run like the wind, and able to jump up high.

By being granted 「Poison Resistance」「Paralysis Resistance」and 「All kinds of Immunity」, Takeru had long gone way beyond the borders of humanity.

With 「Fear Resistance」he lost the ability to get flustered into panic, and to tremble in fear. He may seem cool at a glance, but on the inside, he’s nothing more but a closet pervert.

「Appraisal skill」as the name implies, it is the power to appraise, when put to use, his Appraisal Magic can be developed. This is the ability to detect objects of value, and can only be done by Appraisers or a select few specialists who specialize on appraisal.

[T/N: I obviously ran out of vocabulary here LOL (>_<).]

「Mana Upper Limits*」is the special superhuman ability of those who have a stupidly colossal amount of Mana, and in this world where Mana is the foundation of everything, it is highly regarded more than anything. Incidentally, there were times when those who hold stupidly colossal amounts of mana were called heroes, demon kings, or calamities.

[*T/N: I’ve decided to change Magic Power to Mana for no particular reason other than that I’m too lazy to type Magic Power.]

The 『Young Man』had slight feelings of guilt for having allowed Takeru to die for his own convenience.

And so, he granted each skill exactly as requested but he did not think each and every one of them would all be first-class skills.

Not thinking beyond “If he could be a slightly strong adventurer, life would be easygoing, right?” he just bestowed this and that, and as a result—-

Takeru, who was nothing more than one of the mobs on Earth, ended up evolving into an outrageous calamity-class living being in the planet Madeus.

“Ooh!”

I discovered something sort of village-ish.

As a result of ceaselessly skipping while humming, before I knew it, I came out to the main road. Roads lead somewhere. That being the case, I went on a lighthearted run.

No matter how much I ran, I never felt tired, so I got carried away and ended up running all the way. As I did, a group of man-made structures came into view by the time the sun-like thing was right above my head.

Here and there, white smoke rose up to the sky, and the faint sound of children’s laughter could be heard. Since there are no tall buildings to be found, then it might be something like a village or settlement.

Now then, if I go visit the village like this, would I be called a suspicious person? I wonder if they will throw stones at me?

I do think my appearance is quite neat, and I’m not ugly to the point that people would look away either. Body odor…… I’m not too sure. I grew taller in height but in this other world, this much might be the average height.

Now that I think about it, I didn’t have any cash in my bag. I feel like that young man said something about not having a single penny but to look for something and sell it off. However, I don’t know which one would earn me money.

I probably just have to search for something, but how do I search for what thing?*

[T/N: does this sentence make any sense? it’s so hard to stick to nuances in Japanese! (>_<).]

I feel like I was told about things called Appraisal skill and Appraisal magic.

My aspiration…. or not, but humans, at least once, would dream of being a magic user. I don’t have the slightest idea of how to use it though, do I just have to say some sort of incantation?

“Appraisal….. Uhmm, appraisal….. yep, 『Search』, is it?”

When I released the word that came to mind, a multitude of shining spots appeared in my field of vision.

Red, white, and green, there were various colors; and as I drew closer to the nearest green spot, I found a yellow flower among the thickly overgrown grass.

It was the highly yearned-for magic, but it was extremely plain. I thought the light would be more sparkly, and do more of a sharan-sharan~ but there was none of that. Plain.

Anyway, there are other blue and yellow flowers here, but the green light only emphasizes this flower. Is it different from the others in some way?

“In this case, I have to examine it more thoroughly, right? In that case…. to examine…. to examine…. investigation? It’s 『Scan』.

【MOONLIT NIGHT GRASS Rank B】

A yellow flower that is said to bud for three moonlit nights. The flower’s nectar is a favorite food for spirits, and is effective for recovering from exhaustion. If crushed, it could be turned into an ointment for wounds.

NOTE: This is not an ordinary medicinal herb that is circulated in the market but a high-level recovery medicine. Its habitat is sparse, and finding it is troublesome.

Ho-hoo.

The information flashed in within my brain. It is similar to that feeling when you unintentionally recall something you forgot. Because I end up not having to search through a field guide for every little thing, it is pretty convenient magic.

However, it’s plain.

My first ever material collection for my other-world reincarnation is a Rank B. I did quite reasonably well, did I not? I don’t know about this rank thing though.

I wonder how much exactly this could sell for. If it could be enough for at least one meal, that would be good.

In short, all these bright spots within my field of vision indicate places where materials like these are. Then, if I cast 『Scan』 on whatever is found there, I’ll know its name, usage* and rank. Yep, yep, that’s convenient.

[T/N: I was torn between “purpose” or “usage” here but you get the idea. Right?]

If green is for plants, then red is…. for stone?

When I picked up the stone near my feet, it was smooth and round, like those stones on a dry river bed. Even though there is no river, it was a round stone.

After that, I cast 『Scan』.

【HAMMER ANTEATER’S EXCREMENT Rank C】

Faeces of the Hammer Anteater that preys on Hammer Ants which produce a type of adhesive substance within their bodies. When it is dissolved in water, it can become a strong adhesive.

It is highly valued as a building material.

“It was actually poop!!”

Just when I thought it was stone, it turned out to be poop.

But it’s Rank C, so I can’t really throw it away. Even though its appearance and the feel could not be thought of as anything but stone, this is actually poop? If I just put it in my bag just as it is, somehow, I don’t wanna. I had 『Sack x 10』 so I guess I’ll just put it in one of those.

Yup, my bag’s contents had 『Sack 1: Hammer Anteater’s Excrement x 1』 added in. So the 『Sack』 in my bag’s contents is similar to a folder in a PC, huh.

The red indicators can’t be for poop, right? Compared to green and white ones, the other red indicators were extremely scarce. When I approached a white indicator to find out what it is, a scraggy, black stone rolled down.

【IRON ORE Rank D】

Though in demand, it is not a very rare ore. Iron raw material.

So white indicators are for ores? I don’t understand the difference between the red and white that much, but all I have to do is search little by little. Anyway, I found a flower, poop, and a stone. It’s good as long as I can pay for a meal or two, or more extravagantly, tonight’s lodging fees.

It’s alright even if I get overcharged at first, I just want to get some cash.

Now then, why don’t we try going to the village.
